Strategy & Tips
Roulette is purely a game of chance and there is no way to beat the table. However, over the years, many players have devised systems which give an advantage to the player and increase the chances of winning. There are more than a dozen systems, but there are only a few that are commonly used and are most reliable. One of those is the Labouchere system.
The Labouchere System
This is a progression betting strategy that does not require the player to risk their stake. This strategy can be used if you have a predetermined amount of money that you wish to win. List a series of positive numbers that add up to the amount that you want to win. With each bet, stake an amount equal to the sum of the first and last numbers on your list. If only one number remains, that number is the amount of the stake. If your bet is successful, remove the two amounts from the list. In case the bet fails, move the amount lost to the end of the list. Continue this process until either the list is completely crossed out, at which point you have won the desired amount of money or you have run out of money to wager.
For e.g.: If you have decided to win $100 on European Roulette, make a list of positive numbers whose sum is $100.
5+5+10+25+15+10+5+5+20
Your first bet is 25 (5+20). If you win, cross out the first and the last numbers from your list
Monday free spins. 5+5+10+25+15+10+5+5+20
Your next bet will be 10 (5+5). However, if you lose, your new list will look something like 5+10+25+15+10+5+5+25 and your next bet will be 30 (5+25)
History
Roulette was first played in France, in the 18th century. It was then believed to be an amalgamation of several European games. The word Roulette literally means small wheel in French.
The original version of the game had both the 0 and the 00 bets and an American eagle. It was only in 1843 that two Frenchmen – François and Louis Blanc, introduced the single 0 style wheel which is now popular as European Roulette. This new wheel was invented to compete against other casinos offering the traditional wheel with both the single and the double zero pockets.
The German government abolished gambling in 1860 and the Blanc family which ran a gambling outfit in Germany decided to move to the last legal remaining casino operation in Europe at Monte Carlo. It was here that they established a gambling empire for the elite of Europe. The signature game of the Blanc family – the single 0 game became popular. Over the years, European Roulette spread to the rest of the world. However, in the United States the original double zero wheel remained popular.
